Raw honey has been used in medicine for over 5,000 years. Its therapeutic properties are attributed to antimicrobial activity and high levels of antioxidants. However, some types stand out from the pack. Scientists have identified honeys produced from certain floral varieties in Australia and New Zealand to have much higher levels of Antimicrobial activity. These Honeys have become widely known for their superior therapeutic and medicinal benefits, with scientific studies suggesting a wide range of applications including Treatment of wounds and burns, promoting oral health, soothing sore throats, relieving digestive symptoms, reducing the symptoms of cold and flu and prevention of stomach ulcers.* 

While Bio-Active Marri and Manuka honeys differ in their chemical composition, they both achieve comparable theraputic results.


Manuka Honey was first discovered to have high levels of antimicrobial activity by New Zealand Scientists in 1980. Since then it has been the subject of various marketing campaigns in the United States and has become a worldwide phenomenon. Manuka is a Non Peroxide honey. Its Bio-Active properties are attributed to the organic compound Methylglyoxal. This compound is unique to Manuka honey, a fact which is often purported by marketers to showcase the superiority of Manuka honey. Although Unique in its chemical makeup, Manuka is not the worlds strongest Bio-Active honey.

Bio-Active Western Australian honeys have been much more recently discovered, but we believe (and a lot of scientists seem to agree with us) they have much superior properties.

An Independent Study in New Zealand from 2016 found Marri honey to have much higher levels of antimicrobial activity when compared to Manuka honey. Marri trees are unique to Western Australia and honey produced from their flowers has been found to have the highest levels of antimicrobial activity in the world. The Bio-Activity in Marri  honey is  is due to hydrogen peroxide produced by the enzyme glucose oxidase and for this reason it is known as a peroxide honey.  Our extreme strength TA 44 Bio-Active Marri honey is quite literally off the chart in its activity, having up to three times the antimicrobial activity of medical grade Manuka.* Or up to 2x the Antimicrobial strength of UMF 26 MGO 1282*.


*please note that medical grade honey used in hospitals is gamma irradiated and highly filtered to ensure it is free of contaminants. We believe our honey should be raw and as close to its natural state as possible. It is hand extracted, cold  filtered and jarred. Nothing else. As such there may be small amounts of wax/pollen present and while these are perfectly safe to eat, we can not recommend our honey for wound dressings or other hospital based applications.
